No analogy is perfect, but for some reason I like this one. ‘That guy’ in Mario Kart is actually called ‘Lakitu’. He is there to pick you up when you fall in water or some other hazard. And he keeps doing it over and over.
But he is also the guy who starts the race. So if you start driving backwards or in the wrong direction, he appears with a sign telling you to turn around. How many times does God do that for us.
And finally, Lakitu is also the guy who lets you know it is a final lap. Perhaps one of these could be his Bible verse:
Hebrews 12:1 – Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us
2 Timothy 4:7 – I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
